Interested in Philmont in 2017?

Posted on Oct 18 2015 - 6:38pm

Dear Scouts and Parents:

Troop 131 is trying to determine interest and commitment for a 2017 Philmont High Adventure trip. The time to register is in two weeks, at the beginning of November, and the trip is in the summer of 2017. All boys attending must be at least 14 on the date of the trip and be physically fit enough to backpack in Arizona in the summer. The troop ran a trip to Philmont in 2014 and all of the scouts and dads who went said that it was the “trip of a lifetime”.

Philmont is generally considered the peak of scouting, it is the first and largest high adventure camp in the country. The camp offers 7 and 12 day treks, and when you express interest, please let me know which length you’d prefer. Philmont has a very informative web site, http://www.philmontscoutranch.org/About.aspx

The fees are $522 per person for the 7 day trek, $895 for the 12 day trip, not including airfare and transportation to the camp. No money is due until 2016. Ian and I plan to go, and you are welcome to join us!

Be sure to pay close attention to the October issue of Boys' Life magazine. The Search and Rescue Camporee from Schnecksville was featured, and if you look close at the picture of St. Luke's helicopter, you'll see some from Troop 131.
